THURSDAY WEATHER: Strong winds persist across the Canary Islands as skies begin to clear

Strong winds, with occasional very strong gusts, will continue across the Canary Islands today, Thursday, although skies are expected to gradually clear, with cloud mainly lingering in northern areas where only light, occasional rain is forecast.

According to AEMET, temperatures will remain largely steady across the islands. Winds will be moderate from the north or north-east, with stronger intervals in exposed areas and the possibility of occasional very strong gusts.

At sea, north to north-easterly winds will reach force 4 to 5, occasionally force 6 in some areas, with moderate to rough seas and a northerly swell of between one and two metres.

Island-by-island forecast for Thursday 26th March 2026:

Tenerife
Cloudy in the north and north-east with occasional light rain, mainly inland. Mostly clear elsewhere, though cloud may develop in the south later, with a slight chance of light or locally moderate rain. Temperatures largely unchanged, although light frost is possible on Mount Teide. Moderate northerly winds with strong intervals in exposed areas and a risk of very strong gusts.
General temperatures: Low of 17°C and high of 22°C.

Gran Canaria
Cloudy in the north with possible light, occasional rain, mainly in mid-altitude areas. Elsewhere mostly clear. Slight fall in daytime temperatures in the north, with little change elsewhere. Moderate northerly winds with strong intervals on eastern and western slopes, and a small chance of very strong gusts.
General temperatures: Low of 18°C and high of 21°C.

Lanzarote
Mostly cloudy with a low chance of light rain. Sunny intervals are expected in the south and east during the afternoon. Temperatures will see little change. Moderate northerly winds with occasional strong gusts inland.
General temperatures: Low of 16°C and high of 22°C.

Fuerteventura
Cloudy with a slight chance of light rain, becoming clearer in the south and east later in the day. Temperatures stable. Moderate northerly winds, occasionally strong inland and in Jandía.
General temperatures: Low of 17°C and high of 22°C.

La Gomera
Cloud in the north with possible light rain, mainly inland. Clearer skies elsewhere. Temperatures stable, with a slight drop in northern highs. Moderate north-easterly winds with strong intervals and occasional very strong gusts on south-east and western coasts.
General temperatures: Low of 17°C and high of 22°C.

La Palma
Cloudy in the north and east with occasional light rain, especially inland. Brighter conditions elsewhere. Slight drop in inland minimum temperatures and a rise in summit highs. Moderate north-easterly winds with strong intervals and possible very strong gusts.
General temperatures: Low of 15°C and high of 21°C.

El Hierro
Cloudy in the north with occasional light rain inland, while other areas remain mostly clear. Temperatures largely unchanged, with slight local drops in northern areas. Moderate north-easterly winds with strong intervals and occasional very strong gusts in exposed locations.
General temperatures: Low of 13°C and high of 16°C.

It’s important to remember that the Canary Islands are full of micro-climates due to the mountainous areas. This means all forecasts and temperatures are general for the island, and not location specific. It will obviously be colder at altitude up mountains, and warmer in sheltered coastal areas, but can be very different just a few kilometres away.
