The Arona Council took precautionary measures yesterday afternoon (Tuesday) by closing sections of key beaches in the municipality in the south of Tenerife, due to dangerous sea and coastal conditions.
The strong waves and rising sea levels led to the closure of parts of Las Vistas Beach and El Camison Beach in Los Cristianos, and the access to the swimming area in at the main beach in Las Galletas.
According to a statement from the Arona City Council, the most affected section of Las Vistas Beach was marked with a red flag, indicating it was closed to the public, with lifeguards monitoring the situation. The other half of the beach remained open under a yellow flag; signifying caution is advised.
El Camisón Beach was also fully closed, with a red flag in place. In Las Galletas, the seaside promenade and access to the bathing area were off-limits, while the El Litoral promenade (accessible from Cruz Roja) stayed open.
Conditions will be inspected this morning and all beaches are expected to be open again as long as conditions have improved and there is no damage to accesses.
The council says that residents and visitors can stay informed about the situation by contacting the Telephone Assistance Service on 010 (922 761 600) or by contacting the Arona Local Police on 092 (922 725 562).
