Serious motorcycle accidents on Tenerife roads leave two injured

Two motorcyclists were injured in separate accidents on Tenerife’s roads on Saturday, 5th July, prompting quick action from emergency services and highlighting ongoing concerns about road safety on the island.

A 39-year-old motorcyclist suffered serious injuries following a collision with a car on the TF-47 road as it passes through the municipality of Guía de Isora. The incident occurred at 7:02pm, according to information provided by the Canary Islands’ Emergency and Security Coordination Centre (CECOES).

SUC medical personnel attended the scene with a basic life support ambulance and an advanced life support ambulance. Given the severity of the motorcyclist’s injuries, he was subsequently airlifted by a medical helicopter to the Hospital Universitario Nuestra Señora de Candelaria in Santa Cruz de Tenerife with serious injuries.

Local Police officers assisted medical teams at the scene, while the Guardia Civil managed traffic flow and began the necessary legal investigations. Meanwhile, staff from the Cabildo’s Road Maintenance Service carried out cleaning operations to clear debris from the carriageway.

Another motorcyclist injured earlier the same day in La Orotava

Just hours earlier, at 1:35pm, a female rider sustained moderate injuries after coming off her motorcycle on the TF-21 road while descending from Aguamansa, in the municipality of La Orotava.

Emergency responders were quickly dispatched with both an advanced life support ambulance and a basic life support unit. After receiving initial treatment at the scene inside the advanced ambulance, the woman was transported to Hospital Universitario Hospiten Bellevue for further care.

As with the later incident, the Guardia Civil regulated traffic and took charge of the official report, while road maintenance teams cleaned the affected area to ensure the safety of other road users.

Road safety concerns

These incidents highlight persistent concerns about road safety for motorcyclists on the island’s winding routes, which are popular not only with residents but also with tourists exploring Tenerife by bike.

Authorities continue to urge all drivers to exercise caution and be fully aware of the risks, especially given the island’s challenging terrain and busy roads.
