Scare for passengers as bird strike forces plane to abort flight just after take-off

There was a scare for passengers onboard a plane that had just left Gran Canaria bound for Madrid yesterday (Tuesday), when it was forced to turn round and land again after hitting a bird during take-off.

The incident took place on runway 03R at Gran Canaria Airport, according to information shared by Air Traffic Controllers on X, and the crew asked for permission to return just a few minutes after taking off due to a bird strike.

To ensure safety, the crew was instructed to enter a holding pattern east of the island for 25 minutes. This holding time was necessary to reduce the aircraft's weight by burning off fuel before making a safe landing. After completing this procedure, the plane was cleared for final approach to runway 03L.

The landing proceeded without any issues, following standard protocols for such situations. The passengers and crew were unharmed, and the aircraft is expected to undergo a thorough inspection before resuming operations.
