Santa Cruz cancels Carnival Parade in respect for man killed on Tuesday morning

The Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council has announced the cancellation of today's activities at the carnival, including the main parade, which was scheduled to take place at 4:00pm.

The decision was made as a sign of respect and mourning for the young man who tragically died in the early hours of this morning.

Adverse weather conditions also contributed to the decision, as authorities sought to avoid potential damage to the costumes and floats participating in the parade. Additionally, all kiosks and the fairground will remain closed.

The decision follows a meeting earlier today between the Mayor of Santa Cruz, José Manuel Bermúdez, the Councillor for Festivities, Javier Caraballero, and other members of the municipal corporation.

The main aim is to honour the hard work of the Carnival groups and participants, who have invested months of preparation, as well as to express solidarity with the family and friends of the deceased.

The Carnival festivities are expected to resume tomorrow, Wednesday, 5th March, with the traditional Entierro de la Sardina (Burial of the Sardine). The event will begin at 10:00pm, starting from Calle Juan Pablo II.

The community is asked to join in showing respect and understanding during this difficult time.
