Storm Therese continues to bring unsettled weather across the Canary Islands, and it is expected to continue throughout the weekend. So far, the emergency services have responded to nearly 400 incidents, and although material damage is extensive, the primary concern is preventing human injuries.

Since Tuesday, the storm has affected the islands with increasingly adverse conditions and the arrival of a second front expected to sweep across western and southern Tenerife tonight, extending to Gran Canaria and the eastern islands during the weekend, with all four islands under orange weather warnings.

Heavy rain and strong winds will also be a major feature, with gusts in excess of 100 km/h and up to 150 litres per square metre of rainfall. At sea, conditions will worsen significantly, with rough to very rough seas and north-westerly swell reaching up to five metres.

Weekend Forecast: No Let-Up in Conditions

Saturday will remain unsettled, with strong south-westerly winds and very intense gusts that could exceed 90 km/h in exposed areas.

Persistent and occasionally heavy rain is expected across the south and west of Tenerife and Gran Canaria, particularly in mid-altitude areas, with a risk of thunderstorms and some hail. Lanzarote and Fuerteventura will see cloudy intervals with moderate rainfall. Temperatures will remain largely unchanged.

Sunday will bring continued cloud across Tenerife and Gran Canaria, with further rain in southern and western areas, at times persistent and heavy, although less frequent elsewhere. Thunderstorms remain possible.

In Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, light to moderate rain is expected. Winds will continue from the south-west, with strong gusts early in the day, easing during the morning.
