The Adeje Council have temporarily closed La Pinta Beach in Costa Adeje after daily water quality tests detected the presence of “enterococci 310 short-duration” bacteria. The decision to close the beach was made to safeguard public health, according to an official statement from the town hall.
The public have been advised to avoid swimming in the affected area until further notice, as continuous monitoring of the water quality is underway, and updated information on the situation is expected to be released in the coming hours.
Enterococci are bacteria naturally found in the intestines of humans and animals. Their presence in water is commonly used as an indicator of faecal contamination, suggesting that the water may contain harmful microorganisms.
Exposure to contaminated water can lead to infections of the skin, eyes, respiratory system, and, in some cases, urinary and gastrointestinal infections.
The public is urged to follow the recommendations and stay informed about the ongoing situation to ensure their safety.
