Two dogs wandering along the TF-1 motorway in the south of Tenerife were rescued by the Policía Local de Guía de Isora on yesterday afternoon (Sunday), preventing what could have been a serious accident. The animals were seen walking and even crossing lanes of the busy motorway, posing a clear danger to both themselves and passing drivers.

The incident happened around midday near the Las Higueritas area, just below the town centre of Guía de Isora. Several motorists alerted the 1-1-2 emergency centre after spotting the dogs walking close to the traffic and darting across lanes.

The local police responded immediately, stopping their patrol car and safely removing the animals from the road. The dogs were described as a mixed-breed and a presa canario and were taken to a secure location where they received initial care before animal control services were called in to look after them.

Upon inspection, officers confirmed that both dogs were microchipped, which made it possible to identify and find their owners straight away.

Over the years, stray dogs, goats and even birds have caused traffic disruptions on major roads in the Canary Islands, forcing drivers to brake suddenly or swerve to avoid collisions. In several cases, the police and the emergency services have had to intervene quickly to prevent serious accidents.
