The Canary Islands Health Service (SCS) has announced an investment in hospital infrastructure with the purchase of 175 new hospital beds, set to be distributed across health centres in La Palma, Lanzarote, Fuerteventura, and Tenerife.

The €468,650 initiative aims to modernise healthcare facilities and enhance patient care.

The new beds will replace outdated equipment and expand current capacity. There will be 70 beds sent to La Palma, 50 to Lanzarote, 30 to Fuerteventura, and 25 to the Hospital Universitario Nuestra Señora de Candelaria in Tenerife.

According to the regional Ministry of Health, this is part of a broader effort to bring hospital furnishings in line with current healthcare standards and to ensure the comfort and safety of patients across the islands. These upgrades are seen as essential in meeting the needs of both residents and the millions of visitors who rely on the Canaries’ health services each year.

The project will be carried out under an open public tender, with a four-month timeline for delivery and installation.

This latest upgrade highlights the regional government's ongoing commitment to improving public healthcare services across the islands, ensuring that all corners of the archipelago have access to modern, high-quality medical facilities.

The most recent comparable investment took place in 2023, when the Canary Islands Government allocated over €1.2 million to upgrade critical care units and replace ageing medical equipment in hospitals across Tenerife and Gran Canaria.

That initiative focused on enhancing intensive care services and improving diagnostic capabilities, particularly in response to the strain placed on the system during the COVID-19 pandemic.
