The Canary Islands Government has completed and signed 671 transfer files for unaccompanied migrant minors, allowing their relocation to mainland Spain from the Canaries, under Article 5 and the first additional provision of Royal Decree 658/2025, activated following the declaration of a migration emergency.
These cases were processed by the Subdelegations of the Government in Las Palmas (Gran Canaria) and Santa Cruz (Tenerife), and finalised by the regional Delegation.
An additional 298 files were closed because the individuals concerned were confirmed to be adults and not children, or due to a negative report from the Public Prosecutor’s Office.
Transfers must be completed within five days
Under the Royal Decree, which outlines emergency measures to protect unaccompanied migrant children and teenagers during exceptional migration pressures, the Canary Islands must ensure each approved minor is transferred to their assigned region within five calendar days of receiving the relocation order.
The Delegation highlighted this requirement in an official note, stressing the need for a rapid and coordinated response to safeguard the welfare of the minors involved.
