The Guardia Civil’s Nature Protection Service (Deprona Teide) has reported a man for illegally selling food and drinks at the Chipeque viewpoint, a popular stop in the municipality of Santa Úrsula in north Tenerife.

The viewpoint, known for its panoramic views across the Orotava Valley and Mount Teide, attracts a large number of visitors every day.

According to authorities, the man was operating as an unlicensed street vendor in the area, an activity that is not permitted within the protected natural surroundings.

The Guardia Civil reminded residents and tourists that unregulated food and drink sales can pose health risks, create litter problems, and undermine licensed local businesses.

The Canary Islands have seen repeated cases of unauthorised street vendors approaching tourists. In recent years, police have issued fines to vendors selling fruit and drinks on popular beaches where hygiene controls are stricter due to high visitor numbers.

In Lanzarote, local councils have also cracked down on unlicensed food and souvenir stalls operating near tourist areas such as Timanfaya National Park and the coastal promenade in Arrecife.

This case at Chipeque has now been passed on to the relevant authorities, and the man faces potential fines for unauthorised trading in a protected environment.
