Man faces fine of up to €30,000 for renting tents on roof terrace in Tenerife

The Santa Cruz City Council has ordered the cessation of an underground operation involving the rental of tents for people to stay in, on the roof terrace of a building located on Calle Castellón de la Plana in the capital of Tenerife.

By starting this proceeding, it opens the way to impose the corresponding penalty for engaging in such an activity, classified as very serious, with fines ranging from €15,001 to €30,000.

Notification to stop and remove the tents from the roof will be carried out by the Local Police, allowing those responsible ten days to submit any objections.

The Mayor of Santa Cruz has praised the Municipal Urban Planning Department's action in stopping the illegal activity, saying: "We cannot allow such actions in our municipality, especially when they are carried out without any authorisation and under unacceptable conditions. The City Council will do everything in its power to ensure that the law is upheld."

The Urbanism Councillor, Zaida González, explained that knowledge of this situation came from a neighbour's complaint. "Upon receiving the complaint, we initiated the process to verify if this activity had the necessary permits."

"After the appropriate investigations," she continued, "we started the necessary proceedings to immediately halt this unauthorised activity and impose penalties as stipulated for this violation of the law, which is considered to be a very serious offence."
