The National Police have arrested an 81-year-old man, with no prior criminal record, on charges of child pornography after he was accused of taking photos of a naked 2-year-old boy who was with his family on Las Canteras Beach in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
According to a statement from the Superior Police Headquarters of the Canary Islands, the incident occurred on Tuesday evening (October 9th) when the child's father called 091 to report that he had accosted an elderly man who was taking photos of his son.
Officers arrived at the scene and interviewed the father, then, with the permission of the 81-year-old man, they were able to verify that there were photos of the child in the gallery of his mobile phone.
As a result, the man was arrested for child pornography, and was taken into custody to be charged, and has now been handed over to the competent judicial authority awaiting trial.
