Lorry driver killed as truck veers off road and rolls down a steep hill

A lorry driver has been killed this afternoon (Friday) after his truck left the southern exit of the GC-1 at Las Palmas in Gran Canaria, and spectacularly rolled down a hill and landed in the middle of the carriageway below seriously injuring the driver.

Despite the efforts of the emergency services at the scene of the accident, the Emergency Services Coordination Centre (CECOES) have confirmed that the man has died.

Onlookers were stunned by the accident which happened just a few metres from the Adolfo Cañas tunnel, where there are heavy traffic jams in both directions of the GC-1 at La Laja. For this reason, traffic is being diverted via the GC-3 and GC-31 to enter and leave the city.

Emergency resources from the SUC, the Local Police, the Guardia Civil, the Fire Brigade, and road workers from the Gran Canaria Cabildo are on-site redirecting traffic, securing the area, and attempting to move the wreckage.
