The Telde City Council announced yesterday afternoon (Friday) that the La Garita beach can reopen to the public today, which has been closed since June 29th after the Canary Health Service warned that high contamination levels had been detected after a routine analysis of the water.
The Councillor for Beaches, Jonay López, said at the time that the prevention measure would only affect the water, and that access to the sand was still allowed. However, the beach has remained closed since then, until today.
Public Health have continued to take samples of the seawater for analysis on a daily basis, and has seen contamination levels reduce until they have now reached a low level that is acceptable to allow people back into the water as it is now optimal for bathing.
