Investigation launched into poisoning of 15 dogs in Mogan

Authorities in Mogán (Gran Canaria) are investigating a series of dog poisonings that have occurred over the past two weeks in Arguineguín, with up to 15 cases reported.

The Mogán Town Council has reinforced police patrols in affected areas to identify potential toxic substances that pets might be ingesting and to track down those responsible for placing them. Additionally, clean-up operations have been intensified in high-risk locations.

The Environmental Department of the Gran Canaria Cabildo has been notified, and tomorrow (Thursday), a specialised K9 unit trained to detect poison will be deployed to assist in the investigation.

Suspicious Infected Food Found

Yesterday, Tuesday, officers discovered slices of cold cuts of meat scattered in green areas along Avenida Manuel Álamo Suárez, emitting a strong odour indicative of possible poisoning.

Samples have been sent for analysis to determine the exact nature of the toxic substance, which is suspected to be highly potent given the severe and immediate effects reported in affected dogs.

Dogs exposed to the suspected poison have exhibited tremors and vomiting within a short time, symptoms that could prove fatal without urgent veterinary intervention.

Cases have been primarily reported in:

  • Avenida Manuel Álamo Suárez (Carpintero de Ribera)
  • Loma de Pino Seco, particularly in vacant lots near La Marea Shopping Centre

Pet owners in the area have been advised to remain vigilant while walking their dogs and to seek immediate veterinary attention if their pets show signs of poisoning. Authorities urge the public to report any suspicious activity to help prevent further incidents.
