The Guardia Civil has arrested a female cleaner at a hotel in the south of Tenerife, accused of stealing a diamond ring valued at 16,000 euros from a tourist’s room.
The arrest followed a complaint from a British holidaymaker who reported the disappearance of her ring to the police. The tourist, holidaying on the island, said she had securely stored it in her hotel room safe before going out, but when she got back, she discovered the safe was open, and the diamond ring was missing.
Following an investigation, officers garnered evidence that pointed towards an employee of the hotel as the prime suspect. After feeling the pressure of the investigation, she eventually handed in the missing ring to the hotel management, claiming that she had "found it in her cleaning cart."
Subsequently, the police arrested her on charges of theft and handed her over to the Judicial Authorities along with the evidence collected during the investigation for trial.
