Hikers keep emergency helicopters busy over the weekend

Over the weekend, the emergency services rescued a total of seven people on the trails of the Canary Islands in three different incidents in Tenerife and Gran Canaria.

In one case on Saturday, the rescued person was evacuated by helicopter after falling and suffering a leg injury while hiking through the area of ​​Los Catalanes in the Anaga forest in the north of Tenerife.

This man was airlifted to the Tenerife North airport, where an ambulance was waiting to take him to the University Hospital of La Candelaria for further treatment.

A helicopter was also in action in Gran Canaria on Saturday, where it came to the aid of four hikers in Agaete, who had got lost and had entered an area that was difficult to access. They needed rescuing as they couldn’t get out of the area and were stranded.

In a similar incident on Friday, another helicopter, this time from Maritime Rescue, had to retrieve two more hikers who couldn’t continue their journey on the coast of Santiago del Teide, after one of them tripped and fell, sustaining an ankle injury.
