Hiker airlifted to safety by GES helicopter in Masca

A GES Emergency and Rescue helicopter was needed yesterday afternoon (Monday), to airlift a hiker who felt unwell while walking in the Masca Valley in Tenerife, to the point that they couldn’t continue and needed help.

The Emergency Services Coordination Centre (CECOES) reported that they received a call for help at 3:25pm from the 55-year-old Polish hiker herself, explaining her condition saying that she was too ill to carry on or make it back to the start point of the walk.

They immediately activated the necessary emergency resources, and after assessing the situation, firemen carried her on a stretcher by land to the air evacuation point for her to be airlifted to safety.

The GES helicopter then transferred her to the La Guancha helipad where she received medical assistance from SUC personnel, and due to her condition, was taken to the Hospital del Norte for further treatment.
