The Guardia Civil have reported that they rescued a one-year-old baby girl from inside a locked car in Agüimes, Gran Canaria, after receiving a 112 emergency call reporting that it had been accidentally left locked inside a vehicle.
According to the report, the incident took place on 28th March, when the local command centre (COS) of the Las Palmas Guardia Civil received an urgent call for help.
The baby’s mother, described as “deeply distressed,” explained that she had inadvertently left her keys inside the car, which then locked itself with her baby daughter still inside. Unable to access the vehicle, she quickly contacted the emergency services for help.
A nearby patrol from the Agüimes station was immediately dispatched, and upon arrival, officers found the mother visibly shaken and quickly assessed the situation.
Acting with both urgency and care, the agents broke one of the vehicle’s windows to safely rescue the infant, who was fortunately found to be in perfect health.
Both mother and child were attended to on the scene and did not require hospital treatment, and were able to return home shortly afterwards.
Authorities have used the incident to issue a reminder about the dangers of leaving children unattended in vehicles, even for short periods. Interior temperatures can rise rapidly, posing serious health risks to young children and infants.
