Gran Canarias hotels will be close to full over Easter

The Minister of Tourism in Gran Canaria, Carlos Álamo, stated today (Wednesday) that, according to the data they handle, many hotels on the island will be close to full at Easter. Álamo highlighted that "the numbers have returned to be good since the restrictions have been lifted and people have been able to travel without being subject to quarantines."

According to Alamo, the trend from January to March this year has been good despite the latest wave of the coronavirus, the entry restrictions, and the war in Ukraine.

In February, 294,431 visitors went to Gran Canaria and the sum of the first two months exceeds 551,000 international tourists, 33% less than in 2019, which demonstrates the good situation of the destination.

Looking ahead to Easter, Gran Canaria has 138,293 international air seats, not including those from Spanish airports, compared to 124,725 in the same period of 2019.

Alamo also stressed that Iberia is offering more than 1.7 million seats to the Canary Islands between now and October, 25% more than in 2019, with 48 weekly flights between Madrid and Gran Canaria.

He added that "it is important to recognize the effort that airlines such as Iberia or Binter are making and that they consider us one of their main sun and beach destinations for Easter and summer this year".

National tourism has been very good for Gran Canaria, and has made it possible to increase spending in the destination, and has also increased interest in products such as the gastronomy of the island.
