The National Police have arrested five people, aged between 38 and 57, in connection with industrial property crime in the south of Tenerife. The arrests follow an investigation that began after several complaints were filed by representatives of well-known brands, who reported the alleged sale of counterfeit products in various markets across the south.
The investigation, led by agents from the Local Judicial Police, resulted in a coordinated police operation during which approximately 1,300 sportswear items and 350 pieces of jewellery, all believed to be counterfeit, were seized. The total market value of these items is in excess of €290,000.
The operation concluded with the arrest of five men, who are now facing charges related to industrial property crimes. Notably, four of the suspects already have police records for similar offences.
Even though the vast majority of holidaymakers may realise and are happily buying fake items, this does not make it legal. The National Police stress that crimes of this nature involve the pursuit of unfair economic gain, undermining the quality assurance that consumers expect from legitimate products, and harm the interests of lawful businesses.
