The National Police have arrested five people at Tenerife South Airport for alleged offences of document forgery and identity fraud as they attempted to board flights to the United Kingdom and Ireland using falsified documents, during routine border checks.
The first detainee, an Albanian national, was apprehended while trying to travel to Dublin, Ireland, using falsified Greek documents. The following day, a woman of Iraqi nationality was arrested as she attempted to board a flight to London, with counterfeit Dutch documents.
A few hours later, another Albanian national was detained while attempting to fly to Dublin with forged Italian documents. The next day, officers arrested two Iraqi men, both refugees in Greece, who were trying to board a flight to London using falsified Danish documents, according to a statement from the National Police.
The five individuals have been brought before the relevant judicial authorities. Four of them face charges of document forgery, while one is accused of identity fraud.
The National Police are continuing their investigation to establish whether more people are involved and to dismantle any potential networks engaged in illegal human trafficking.
