An emergency helicopter had to recover the lifeless body of a fisherman yesterday (Friday) on the coast of La Laja, in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, after the Emergency Services Coordination Centre (CECOES) received an alert just after midday informing that a fisherman had fallen into the sea from the rocks in the aforementioned area.
CECOES immediately activated the necessary emergency resources, and the man’s body was located by the GES helicopter whose crew had to airlift it from the water.
According to witnesses, the man was fishing on the coast when he slipped and fell into the water, but due to bad sea conditions that have been warned about recently, he couldn’t get back out again, which is why they called the emergency services.
After confirming the death of the fisherman on board the helicopter, they headed to the helipad at the Dr. Negrín University Hospital, where the National Police took charge of it until the arrival of the judicial authority who ordered official identification and an autopsy.
