A man has been arrested in Lanzarote on suspicion of attempted murder after allegedly stabbing another man multiple times during a fight outside a bar. The incident, described by police as an “alcohol-fuelled altercation”, left the victim critically injured.
According to an official statement from the National Police, officers were alerted to a violent confrontation near a bar in Arrecife, Lanzarote, at around 6:00pm on Tuesday 10th June. Upon arrival, they discovered an unconscious man lying on the street, bleeding heavily from wounds to his chest and back. The victim was surrounded by a large pool of blood and was immediately treated by paramedics before being rushed to Doctor José Molina Orosa University Hospital.
Witnesses reported that the suspect had stabbed the victim several times, both from the front and the back, and had struck him forcefully on the head, rendering him unconscious. The altercation is believed to have erupted spontaneously as a result of excessive alcohol consumption.
Following the attack, the Judicial Police launched a full investigation to locate the assailant. A search of the area led officers to the discovery of a concealed knife hidden inside an electrical box in a nearby building. The weapon was collected by forensic officers for analysis.
The suspect, a 40-year-old man, was eventually located and taken into custody. He was brought before a judge, who ordered his immediate remand into custody on suspicion of attempted homicide.
The victim was admitted to intensive care, suffering from a pneumothorax and significant blood loss. After stabilisation, he was later transferred to a general ward to continue his recovery.
The investigation remains ongoing.
