Christmas seems to come earlier every year with advertising starting in September and shops stocking up on toys and selection boxes well before Halloween, however, one town hall in the Canary Islands has beaten all of them this year.
Residents of Telde in Gran Canaria, had a shock on Friday (4th August) when they witnessed council workers putting up Christmas lights in the town.
Local councillor at Telde town hall, Pilar Mesa, said: "We are putting the lights up now, so that, in the event of any future incident, no area of Telde is left without Christmas illuminations. It is important that all areas of the municipality have them in time for the annual switch-on"
However, looking at comments on social media, this explanation has not convinced anyone, especially as most people are just starting their summer holidays!
