The street festivities will begin in the south of Tenerife today (Saturday) with the opening parade of the Los Cristianos carnival along the Golden Mile of Playa de las Américas, and will continue with the main Carnival Parade tomorrow, Sunday 19th March. Other shows will include a drag night, dance groups, the Daytime Carnival, and much much more culminating with the Burial of the Sardine on Monday 27th March.
In just a few hours the streets of Los Cristianos will be a sea of colours and glitter again with the arrival of the International Carnival, regarded as the second most important in Tenerife after Santa Cruz, with a total influx of 125,000 people, of which 20,000 will go to the Daytime Carnival, and an economic return to municipality that is estimated at more than six million euros.
Residents, carnival-goers from other parts of the island, and tourists have had to wait three years to enjoy the southern Carnival again that, with Japan as a theme, will ‘invade’ the streets tonight with the inaugural Annunciator Parade, the first of twenty events that make up this year's program, that will give special prominence to dance groups and murgas (street bands), which are the essence of Carnival.
Tonight’s parade will begin at 7:00pm and will cover a route from the Gala shopping centre on Avenida Rafael Puig Lluvina, to the Oasis shopping centre in the Golden Mile. After the parade, there will be a musical show called "Estrellas de Buenavista y más" on the main stage in front of the Valdes Centre from 10:30pm.
At the same time, the fair is now open in the usual place as you approach Los Cristianos from the TF-1 motorway.
