A British woman who first made headlines two years ago for trying to find the man she says fathered her child during a holiday in Tenerife has relaunched her appeal in the hope of finally getting answers for her son.

Sarah-Jayne Snow, 32, from East Lothian in Scotland, became pregnant after a one-night encounter with a man she met on the beach during a trip to Tenerife with her sister.

She believes he is Scottish, aged 19 at the time, and working at Braehead Shopping Centre in Glasgow, but says she never caught his name or exchanged contact details.

Speaking to the UK press, Sarah-Jayne recalled meeting the man in the early hours, when he stopped to talk to her as she was walking home alone at around 5 am. He offered to accompany her for safety, and the pair ended up spending the night together. She says she even took a quick selfie with him to reassure her sister she was fine.

On returning home, she discovered she was six weeks pregnant. Having experienced two previous miscarriages, she felt an immediate bond with the pregnancy and decided to keep the baby, whom she named Forrest. She insists her motivation to find the man is not financial but to give her son the opportunity to know his father and paternal family.

In 2023, while still pregnant, Sarah-Jayne launched a TikTok campaign in the hope of tracking him down. The video went viral with more than two million views, but she is still no closer to finding him. The search has also brought online abuse, with some accusing her of trying to “trap” the man or seek money. She denies this, explaining that she left a well-paid management role and now works part-time at a school, relying heavily on her sister for childcare.

Sarah-Jayne says she has no means of claiming child maintenance without a name or contact details. She has only one photo of him, taken during a video call with her sister, and describes him as having brown hair and being taller than her, though she now wonders if that impression was accurate.

To aid her search, she has launched a GoFundMe page to cover the £2,400 cost of a DNA search service that could match her and Forrest’s DNA to potential relatives. She admits it may take her years to save that amount as a single mother, but hopes someone from the man’s family might want to be involved, even if he does not.

Despite the setbacks, she remains determined: “Maybe he doesn’t know he has a son. If he wants nothing to do with us, that’s fine, but I want to give him and Forrest the chance. What if his parents want to be grandparents?”

Sarah-Jayne says she will keep trying and hopes that one day Forrest will be proud of her efforts to uncover his roots.
