Bizarre robbery as thieves steal two doors from a car parked in a public street

The Guardia Civil have just arrested two men aged 27 and 41, accused of breaking into a car and stealing two doors from it whilst it was parked outside the owners' house on a public road called the Patalavaca highway in Mogan in the south of Gran Canaria.

The robbery took place a month ago in the early hours of March 18th, when a neighbour told the owner that the two doors were missing from the left side of his Volkswagen Golf and that a window had been smashed on the right side, which is where the thieves got in.

Not only was this a bizarre robbery, but it also meant that the car couldn’t be driven on public roads so the owner had to get a grua so that it could be repaired.

The Guardia Civil opened an investigation after inspecting the vehicle and were eventually able to obtain CCTV footage from surveillance cameras in the area that showed the incident taking place.

On it, two men pulled up next to the VW Golf in a rented van and in a matter of just a few minutes broke into it and removed the car doors before putting them in their vehicle and driving off.

Following this, all be it over a month later, investigators were able to identify those responsible for the crime and arrest them, clarifying that the two men had stolen the doors to fit onto another car.

They are now in custody of the Duty Court of San Bartolomé de Tirajana where they will face trial.
