Arrested in Arona for spending 5,000 euros online with someone else’s credit card

The Guardia Civil has started proceedings against a man in Arona, in the south of Tenerife, for committing fraud after he used someone else’s credit card without their consent, spending over 5,000 euros on online purchases.

The investigation began after the victim filed an official complaint (denuncia) to the police against the accused, stating that various purchases had been made on the internet which had been deducted from his bank account, through the non-consensual use of his credit card.

The purchases had been made in an online clothing store, in cosmetics and beauty shops, for cinema tickets, flights, and 15 tickets for concerts and festivals, totaling more than 5,000 euros, all charged to his card without his knowledge.

However, the fact he reported it to the police quickly, made it possible for the facts to be investigated to find the scammer.

The online team of the Guardia Civil in Playa las Americas, which specialises in criminal activity using technology, managed to quickly identify and locate the person responsible, who is based in Arona and has now been detained for questioning regarding the alleged fraud.
