Adeje Town Hall has reinforced its commitment to public safety with the addition of 20 new trainee police officers, who took office on Friday, 14th February.
These recruits successfully passed a competitive examination and will now undergo 1,200 hours of training before their full integration into the Adeje Local Police force.
The current Adeje Policía Local team consists of 105 active officers. Once the trainees complete their training and practical experience, expected to last between six and eight months, the total number of officers will increase to 125.
This expansion aims to enhance the police presence in the community, improving responsiveness and service quality for local residents.
The Mayor of Adeje, José Miguel Rodríguez Fraga, emphasized the importance of this investment, stating: “Security is essential; investing in it allows us to maintain peace, coexistence, order, and tranquillity. In a tourist destination like ours, guaranteeing safety and having effective resources to achieve it is crucial.”
He also stressed the significance of a professional and well-trained police force that meets community needs and responds effectively to any situation.
Councillor for Security, Mercedes Vargas Delgado, echoed these sentiments, noting that “Policing requires specific and specialised training, as officers face complex situations that must be handled with professionalism and precision.”
Comprehensive Training for Future Officers
The 20 trainee officers will undergo specialist training at the Canary Islands Security Academy. The curriculum focuses on key areas, including public safety, traffic management, emergency response, operational intervention, community relations, and the protection of vulnerable groups.
The course is divided into 10 modules aimed at equipping future officers with the skills required to perform their duties with professionalism and efficiency. Particular emphasis is placed on public engagement, respect for fundamental rights, and conflict mediation.
Key topics covered include:
In addition to classroom training, the recruits will gain hands-on experience in real-life policing situations across various divisions of the force. This approach ensures that the officers are well-prepared for their official duties, contributing to a safer and more secure Adeje community.
