AEMET activates more Orange weather warnings until Wednesday
Storm Therese continues to affect the Canary Islands this and is expected to bring more rain and unsettled weather until at least Wednesday, resulting in widespread weather warnings across the archipelago.
The Spanish Met Office (AEMET) has issued more yellow and orange alerts for heavy rain and storms on all of the islands. These warnings are currently in place until Wednesday, although they could be extended as forecasts are updated.
Tenerife on Orange Alert
Tenerife is under an orange weather warning for heavy rain affecting the north, east, south, west and metropolitan areas. The alert remains in force until 11:59pm on Tuesday, with rainfall expected to reach up to 30mm in one hour.
After that, the warning will be downgraded to yellow in the north of the island, with up to 15mm of rain per hour, while conditions are expected to improve elsewhere.
Gran Canaria, Lanzarote and Fuerteventura
Gran Canaria is under a yellow warning for rain across much of the island, including higher ground and coastal areas, until late Tuesday. Rainfall could reach 20mm per hour.
Lanzarote and Fuerteventura are also on yellow alert throughout Monday night, with forecasts of up to 15mm of rain per hour, along with the possibility of heavy showers and isolated thunderstorms.
Western Islands Face Heavier Rain
La Palma will see changing conditions throughout Tuesday. A yellow alert remains in place until mid-afternoon, before escalating to orange, with up to 120mm of rain expected over 12 hours and possible thunderstorms. The warning will then return to yellow into Wednesday.
El Hierro and La Gomera are both under orange warnings for heavy rain until later on tonight, Monday, with rainfall of up to 20mm per hour. Conditions are expected to ease slightly afterwards, with yellow alerts continuing until Wednesday.
