A car caught fire yesterday afternoon (Thursday) while travelling on the LZ-2 main road near the Uga roundabout in Lanzarote. Thankfully, all occupants managed to exit the vehicle safely and were unharmed.
The Emergency Services received a 112 alert at around 1.30pm informing them about the fire, and dispatched the necessary resources to the location given, including the Local Police, Guardia Civil, fire brigade, and two ambulances.
Firefighters managed to quickly get the fire under control and extinguished the blaze, before clearing the car from the road, so that police officers, who had managed the traffic to ensure safety and minimal disruption in the area, were able to restore it back to normal.
Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident and the Guardia Civil have started an investigation into the cause of the fire.
Vehicle fires can occur for various reasons. Mechanical failures, such as overheating engines or electrical faults, are common culprits as well as Leaks in the fuel system, such as a cracked fuel line, can also lead to fires if petrol comes into contact with hot engine parts.
Additionally, issues with the exhaust system, such as a catalytic converter malfunction, can lead to excessive heat buildup and ignite surrounding materials. Regular maintenance and inspections are essential to prevent such hazards and ensure vehicle safety.
