Emergency services continued through the night to battle a major fire at the Valle de Güímar Industrial Estate in Tenerife, with 40 firefighters staying on site to contain the blaze, which has been classified as a level 3 emergency.
The fire broke out at approximately 7:00p.m. last night (Tuesday) in a warehouse, generating a vast column of smoke visible from the TF-1 motorway and across the entire Güímar Valley.
The smoke severely reduced visibility along the motorway, prompting the Guardia Civil to temporarily close it in both directions for safety reasons. When road was reopened, authorities urged drivers to exercise extreme caution when passing through the area.
Firefighting efforts have been focused on preventing the flames from spreading to nearby units and containing the fire within the affected warehouse. The response team includes 22 professional firefighters from the Tenerife Fire Consortium, supported by 16 volunteer firefighters from various stations around the island. Six members of the Cabildo's Brifor forest brigade also joined the operation.
Two ambulances were also dispatched as a precautionary measure, and one person has been confirmed injured during the incident.
Once the fire is fully extinguished, authorities will begin an investigation into its cause and carry out a technical assessment of the structural integrity of the affected building, led by the Candelaria Town Council.
