A 14-year-old boy has been left seriously injured after being hit by a vehicle in a shocking accident in Tenerife early this morning (Tuesday). The incident occurred at approximately 7:25am on Camino Salto del Gato, a quiet road in the municipality of El Sauzal.
Emergency services were alerted when the Canary Islands Emergency and Security Coordination Centre (CECOES) 1-1-2 received a distress call reporting the collision and requesting urgent medical assistance for the young victim. Responders from the Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC) were immediately dispatched to the scene.
Upon arrival, paramedics found the teenager suffering from multiple contusions and significant injuries. His condition was classified as moderate but serious, necessitating treatment at the roadside before he was transferred by ambulance to the HUC Hospital for further care. His current condition has not yet been disclosed by hospital officials.
The Guardia Civil has opened a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident. Officers have taken statements and are gathering evidence to determine how the teenager came to be run over on a route that, while less busy than urban streets, still poses dangers to pedestrians.
The accident has raised concerns about road safety and the protection of vulnerable road users, especially youngsters. Residents are calling for improved safety measures on Camino Salto del Gato, including better signage, speed control, and protection for pedestrians.
Authorities have urged drivers to exercise maximum caution, particularly in areas where young people may be present, as the island continues to see rising concerns over road traffic incidents.
