The National Police have successfully dismantled a criminal organisation involved in drug trafficking in the Canary Islands, arrest ing 10 people (nine men and one woman) in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, all charged with drug trafficking offences.
The investigation, which began in August last year, culminated after months of intensive inquiries and surveillance. Police seized nearly 800 kilograms of hashish, which had been prepared for shipment from Lanzarote to its final destination in Gran Canaria.
The police were able to uncover the operational methods of the network, identifying multiple members including the ringleader, who also runs a well-known gymnasium called Box Gym Puerto.
The coordinated police operation was carried out by the Drug and Organised Crime Unit (UDYCO) of Las Palmas, in collaboration with UDYCO Tenerife and the Local Narcotics Group in Arrecife.
According to police reports, the criminal group received hashish shipments from Morocco, which were then processed and sent out using legitimate logistics companies in an attempt to disguise their illicit activity and evade detection by the authorities.
The search of a property in Arrecife, used as a base for preparing the drugs, resulted in the confiscation of several items linked to the criminal operation. These included three motorcycles, a car, several mobile phones, €10,000 in cash, and a selection of tools used in the packaging and handling of the narcotics.
Following the arrests, all ten suspects were handed over to the judicial authorities. The leader of the organisation has been remanded in custody pending further legal proceedings.
