Level 2? Level 3? What are the restrictions in place for New Year celebrations?

Level 2? Level 3? What are the restrictions in place for New Year celebrations?

After the Superior Court of Justice of the Canary Islands (TSJC) rejected ratifying the Government request to impose a curfew on New Year's Eve, New Year's Day, and Kings day yesterday, here are all the measures for the New Year celebrations in the Canary Islands and, especially, for the Islands in Level 3, which are Tenerife, Gran Canaria, and Fuerteventura, to hopefully help you bring in 2022 happily and safely.

Masks:
The use of masks is mandatory outside in all public areas and in the street, regardless of social distancing. They must also be worn in bars and restaurants when not seated or going to use the toilet facilities, and it is recommended to wear them when sitting down when not actually eating or drinking.

No curfew:
The TSJC reported yesterday afternoon that they were not authorizing a curfew, saying that it was an excessive measure as people can spread the coronavirus during the day as much as during the night.

Ten diners at dinners:
The government has applied the same allowance as Christmas Eve and Christmas Day for December 31st and January 1st, with 10 people allowed around the dinner table at home. This does not apply to bars, restaurants or any commercial entities.

Mandatory COVID passport:
The use of the Covid Certificate is mandatory in alert levels 3 and 4 in all hotel, hospitality, catering and nightlife establishments open to the public, whose opening license has a capacity greater than 30 people, as well as in others in which, regardless of their capacity, the consumption of food is allowed.
It is also required to access cinemas, theatres, auditoriums, and other cultural venues.

Group sizes:
The maximum number of people allowed to meet or sit together anywhere in public, including hospitality venues, is 8 in Leve2 and 6 in Level 3 (except for co-habitants).

Closing times:
The latest closing time of all premises, if licence allows, is set at 2am for the islands in Level 2, and 1am for those in Level 3.

Capacities:
In Level 2, the capacity allowed outdoors is 75% and indoors is 50%. In Level 3 the capacity in commercial premises is reduced to 50% outdoors and 33% indoors, except in hospitality venues, where they use 75% outdoors and 40% indoors.

Public transport:
Public transport remains at 100% capacity because it is considered by the Ministry of Health as not being a first-order place for the spread of infections. However, adequate ventilation and air renewal of vehicles must be guaranteed, as well as the rest of the general measures, e.eg masks.
