Two teenagers on a lilo rescued by helicopter after drifting out to sea

Three people were rescued yesterday afternoon (Thursday) after two teenagers drifted out to sea on a lilo off Playa de Los Perros beach in Granadilla in the south of Tenerife.

They were taken by the current 200 metres from the coast on the east side of the island, to a point where the water gets a lot rougher and choppier past the ‘sheltered’ bathing area, and couldn’t paddle back to the shore.

Emergency services received an urgent call dispatching police, ambulances, and a Helimer 215 maritime rescue helicopter, which airlifted the unharmed teenagers and flew them to hospital for routine checkups.

The third person, a relative of one of the minors, had swum out to try and help them but had to be rescued by another bather after getting into trouble himself due to the current.

The emergency services reported that none of their staff had to intervene as all three were unharmed, although very shaken, by the incident.
