CD Tenerife and UD Las Palmas want Covid free stadiums

The football season kicks off in Spain this weekend with fans allowed back in the stands, and both of the major clubs in the Canary Islands, UD Las Palmas and CD Tenerife, have made it clear that they want Covid-free stadiums so that allowing fans back is a long term thing and not something that will be revoked.

Las Palmas start their campaign tomorrow night at home to Valladolid with 40% of home fans allowed back to watch the match, however, the Gran Canaria club is insisting on the presentation of the Covid Certificate for entry, to prove of full vaccination, or a negative test result, or recovery from the virus.

CD Tenerife are playing their opening game away to Fuenlabrada and have their first home game next Saturday against Sporting Gijon, but the Santa Cruz club aren’t insisting on the Covid certificate, but are recommending and requesting that fans coming to the Heliodoro to support them are fully vaccinated.

Due to health restrictions, only a percentage of seats will be enabled in Spanish stadiums, which will be marked for fans to choose from among those that are free when they enter the stadium, regardless of the seat number of their season ticket.

If the allowed capacity of one of the stands is full, stewards will relocate the season ticket holders to the next highest price tier. In each of the stands, the seats will be distributed in such a way that there is the possibility that fans can sit alone or with cohabitants, in groups of up to four people.

The league has also announced that the gates of the stadium will open two hours before kick-off and the entry of ticket holders has been programmed in five time slots, to avoid crowding.
