El Socorro beach in Los Realejos is preparing for 13 days of surfing and bodyboarding events when the Socorro Classic 2026 gets underway next month. The programme opens with the European Tour of Longboard from 6 to 8 October, featuring Open and Under-18 categories.

For those unfamiliar with longboarding, it is surfing on a noticeably longer and generally wider board than a conventional shortboard.

The extra size provides greater stability and lends itself to a smoother style of surfing, with competitors judged on elements including control, positioning and manoeuvres such as nose riding, where the surfer moves towards the front of the board while riding the wave.

The European Tour of Bodyboard takes place from 7th to 10th October, overlapping with the longboard event.

Attention then turns to conventional surfing on 11th and 12th October, when El Socorro hosts the National Junior Surfing Circuit and the Canary Islands Surf Open.

After a short break, the final weekend features the Canary Islands Interclub Championship on 17th and 18th October.

Registration for the European longboard competition remains open until 23rd September, with places limited.
