The La Palma Cabildo has confirmed this morning (Friday) that entry in to the town of Tazacorte is suspended due to the proximity of the Lava flows that have been heading that way overnight. There were plans that residents could access their houses in the exclusion zone today to continue collecting their belongings after being evacuated, however the proximity of the lava has made this impossible.
Film crews have captured a real ‘lava tsunami’ heading down the hills to Tazacorte which is causing the problems, which has advanced during the night.
The rest of the evacuated residents of La Laguna (in La Palma NOT Tenerife) with properties outside the security perimeter may remove their belongings, as confirmed by the Cabildo.
Access will be controlled and they will be accompanied by security personnel, with prior coordination from their town hall, however, they warned this may be subject to change depending on the meteorological conditions and evolution of the eruptive process.
