The Minister of Health of the Canary Islands, Blas Trujillo, has reported in the press conference after today’s Governing Council meeting that Gran Canaria will move to alert level 4 restrictions from Monday, due to the increase in incidence rates and hospital pressure on the island.
He also announced that all the other islands will stay at their current levels, meaning that Tenerife remains at Level 4, Fuerteventura and La Palma continue at Level 3, Lanzarote and La Gomera at Level 2 and El Hierro at Level 1.
Trujillo explained that, although the Canary Islands are at the peak of the pandemic, there is a stabilisation and decrease in the number of infections in all age groups and the incidence at both seven (IA7) and 14 days (IA14) is decreasing. However, he also warned that the occupancy of ICU beds has increased and the Canary Islands is now the fourth highest region in Spain for occupancy.
He also warned of the situation in Fuerteventura, where there has been an increase in the incidence and hospital occupancy, but not at the levels recorded in Gran Canaria and Tenerife.
