The Government is working on a new rule to establish restrictions against the pandemic

The president of the Canary Islands Government, Ángel Víctor Torres, has announced that they are working on the legal and health aspects of a regulation that will determine what restrictions and measures they can adopt to stop the spread of the pandemic in the archipelago, which they aim to have approved by the Governing Council in mid-August.

Last week the Higher Court of Justice of the Canary Islands (TSJC) rejected some of the measures implemented by the Government, including a night time curfew, the restriction of access to the interior of establishments only to those vaccinated, and closing times of commercial businesses, while it approved others related to capacity.

For this reason, the Government is analyzing what they can do from a “legal and health point of view” and is using the situation in other regions of Spain as a template, and the restrictive measures used to stop previous waves, such as those registered last summer, and at Christmas or Easter, which were successful at the time.

“The only objective is to contain the pandemic and face the coming months in a better situation, which are key for the economy of the islands due to the high tourist season in the autumn and winter months”, the president stressed after his meeting with the Advisory Council, made up of business representatives and union organizations in the Canary Islands.

The latest data on the epidemiological situation of the archipelago indicate that, apparently, the contagion curve is beginning to bend in Tenerife, although in Gran Canaria they continue to increase, Torres said. For this reason, he expressed his confidence that the downward trend will consolidate with a greater number of vaccinations.
