40 soldiers from Tenerife are helping remove ash in La Palma to stop buildings from collapsing

40 soldiers belonging to the 93rd Field Artillery Regiment of the Canarian Brigade, based in Los Rodeos in the north of Tenerife, have joined the Military Emergency Unit (UME) to help in the removal of volcanic ash that has accumulated on roads, terraces, roofs, in fact everywhere from the eruption of the volcano in La Palma, to help avoid the possible collapse of buildings due to the extra weight of the ash.

These soldiers have joined the 25 troops of the Army that continue to collaborate in the barracks of El Fuerte in the logistical and administrative support of the teams deployed by the Armed Forces.

In addition, another 190 members of the UME have been clearing ash since the beginning of the eruption, as well as carrying out surveillance work and monitoring the progress of the lava flows, gas emissions, smoke cloud monitoring, sampling of lava, and accompanying evacuated people to their homes to help remove their priority belongings.
