Filming of J-lo’s new movie in Gran Canaria is stopped due to a big COVID outbreak

The filming of Netflix’s summer blockbuster, The Mother, starring Jennifer López and Handmaids Tale star Joseph Fiennes, has been stopped in Gran Canaria due to a massive outbreak of COVID on the set among the 300-strong crew.

The 52-year-old actress and singer had been on the island for just over a week filming scenes for the new thriller, which is about a female assassin who comes out of hiding to protect her daughter while fleeing from dangerous assailants, scheduled for release later this year.

The film started shooting in October in Canada and was due to move to Fuerteventura at the end of next week to record scenes in various locations on the island to conclude production, but now filming has been suspended until at least February.

J-lo was photographed leaving Gran Canaria on Saturday night boarding a private plane back to the US and was seemingly trying to keep a low profile wearing a pair of sunglasses and a face mask to protect herself from the coronavirus.

The Mother is one of many projects forced to halt production amid the recent spike in COVID-19 cases. Several television shows including Grey's Anatomy, NCIS, NCIS: Los Angeles, and Chicago Fire have all reportedly put production on hold as the omicron variant continues to spread.
