A refreshing new trend in socialising is brewing in Lanzarote this summer — quite literally. Say goodbye to hazy late nights and hello to coffee parties, a growing phenomenon that blends upbeat music, community spirit, and speciality coffee, all without a drop of alcohol in sight.
The brain behind the concept is 22-year-old Lanzarote native DJ Daya Dadlani, who is bringing her successful Groove & Coffee events, first launched in Madrid, to her island home, starting this August in Famara.
Instead of clubs and cocktails, these events take place in cafés by day, offering a lively, sober alternative to traditional nightlife. Think dancing in the sunshine, wellness-focused vibes, and coffee as the main event. “Coffee is the king of the party, and the music is selected with the same level of care,” says Daya.
The inspiration came from her own journey. After years of DJing on the Madrid club scene, Daya grew tired of the late nights and their associations with alcohol and chaos. During the day, she worked as a barista, a role that eventually helped her reconnect with her love of music in a healthier, more balanced way.
“I couldn’t reconcile brewing coffee in peace by day and then being thrown into nightclub madness at night,” she explains. “I wanted the calm and clarity of daytime, but with the energy and joy of a party.”
Despite initial scepticism from some café owners and peers, “People thought I was mad,” she laughs, the idea took root. Similar parties in the US inspired her to move forward, and Groove & Coffee has since gained momentum with pop-up events across Madrid.
Now, she’s ready to introduce the format to Lanzarote. The first local event is expected to happen in August, with exact dates to be announced via her social media channels.
The format is intentionally flexible: pop-up style events that move from café to café, usually lasting around three hours. Daya and her team manage everything, from promotion and logistics to DJ bookings. The atmosphere is vibrant and inclusive, welcoming a wide mix of attendees, from yoga instructors and creatives to parents and retirees. “It’s for people who want to have fun without the fog,” she says.
The drinks menu reflects that ethos too, with mocktails, herbal infusions, premium teas, and of course, high-quality coffee replacing alcohol. It's a setup designed to appeal to health-conscious individuals who still love to have a good time.
“There’s a new kind of partygoer,” says Daya, “someone who still wants to dance, meet people, and enjoy music, but also wake up feeling great the next morning. That’s the future of socialising.”
With her first hometown event just around the corner, Lanzarote’s party scene might be about to wake up to a whole new rhythm. One espresso shot at a time.
