Yellow weather warning for heavy rain and storms in Tenerife

The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has activated a yellow weather warning for heavy rains in Tenerife and the western islands (La Palma, La Gomera, El Hierro) as the tropical wave moves across the archipelago from the east.

Heavy rain and storms are particularly expected in the north of Tenerife and La Palma, with showers and local storms across the rest of the areas of the four islands, and some local showers in various parts of Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, and Fuerteventura.

This tropical wave, which is an atmospheric disturbance that combines heat with storms and showers, is also expected to give high temperatures, up to 34°C, in parts of the east, south and west of Gran Canaria, where there is even talk of a ‘hot blowout’, which is a sudden increase in temperatures in just a few hours, in this case of up to seven degrees.

Given these forecasts, and the effects that were felt throughout the day yesterday (Wednesday), the authorities have issued safety warnings to prevent accidents, particularly on roads as the asphalt gets very greasy and slippery from being dry and dusty for so long.
