The Guardia Civil has broken up a highly active drugs gang that was selling illegal substances across the south of Tenerife. Five people have been arrested, four men and one woman aged between 22 and 55, on suspicion of drug dealing, money laundering, and belonging to a criminal organisation.
The investigation began late last summer, when officers noticed that a family-run group in the south of the island appeared to be running a well-organised drug network. Each member had a set role, including leadership, transport, cutting and preparing the drugs, and distributing them.
According to police, the gang used sophisticated methods to avoid being detected. They built hidden compartments inside their vehicles to transport drugs, using mechanisms they designed themselves. They also used “lookout vehicles” that drove ahead of the main car to spot possible police checkpoints.
Large Cash and Drug Haul
Police carried out six raids at the same time on homes and a business in Granadilla de Abona, San Miguel de Abona, and Tacoronte. In total, officers seized more than 70,000 euros in cash hidden in safes and secret compartments.
They also confiscated significant amounts of drugs, including:
- more than 400 doses of cocaine
- 540 doses of hashish
- 293 doses of marijuana
- 150 doses of MDMA
In addition, officers removed five cars, some of them high-end models, along with imitation guns, precision scales, vacuum-sealing machines, and electronic equipment used to prepare and package the drugs.
Large Police Operation
The action was led by the Judicial Police team in Playa de las Américas, with support from several specialist units, including security and canine teams. The investigation was overseen by Court No. 1 in Granadilla de Abona and the Provincial Prosecutor’s Office in Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
Police say the operation marks a major step forward in tackling organised drug crime in Tenerife.
