The Guardia Civil were waiting on the runway at Tenerife South airport last night for 15 drunk passengers after the crew of Jet2 holidays flight LS1967 from Newcastle asked the authorities for assistance due to disruption on board.
The crew alerted the authorities to the presence of approximately fifteen passengers who appeared to be intoxicated, in response, police were requested to be present upon the aircraft’s arrival, as reported on the official Air Traffic Controllers account on ‘X’.
Upon arrival in Tenerife, the passengers were met by a ‘welcoming committee’ consisting of Guardia Civil officers and airport security personnel, who were prepared to intervene if necessary.
At present, it remains unclear whether any serious incidents occurred on board or if any measures were taken against the passengers involved.
Air Traffic Controllers have expressed their support for the crew, passengers, and security personnel, who frequently have to deal with such situations.
Disruptive behaviour on flights, particularly linked to excessive alcohol consumption, has become a growing concern for airlines and airports, prompting the reinforcement of protocols to mitigate these incidents.
Airport authorities have not confirmed whether any sanctions have been imposed on the passengers involved. However, such incidents can result in penalties ranging from flight bans with certain airlines to fines or even arrests in more severe cases.
