Two planes had to make emergency landings at Tenerife South airport yesterday (Saturday), as they both had passengers on board that suffered from heart attacks, as reported by Air Traffic Controllers on Twitter.
One of the planes was on its way to Cape Verde and reported that they had a 75-year-old man on board that needed urgent medical attention. Emergency personnel were able to treat the man as soon as the plane landed, and revive him with basic and advanced CPR techniques.
Following this, they transferred him by helicopter to the Hospital Universitario Nuestra Señora de la Candelaria for further treatment, where he is still in a serious condition.
The other plane, a domestic flight from the mainland, was diverted from Tenerife North to the south because a Danish passenger on board also suffered from a heart attack.
Again, paramedics were able to get to the passenger in time and save their life, and then transfer this person, whose details haven’t been released, to a hospital in the south as their condition was not as serious.
